'Head in the Clouds' original hand pulled print.

An original hand pulled print using an etching press.

Dry point etching is a method by which I etch the image onto an acrylic plate using a very sharp tool which looks like a pen, and the etched incisions hold the ink to create an image.

When ready for printing, I ink the plate, wiping to remove any excess ink and I put the plate through a hand pulled etching press with moistened finest quality Hahnemuhle etching paper laid over the top.

This is where the term 'Hand Pulled Print' comes from, as each individual print is inked and pulled by hand through the printing press making each print an original fine art print. No computer or digital printer can reproduce the hand pulled effect!
As the plate is handled and printed it deteriorates, so there are a limited amount of prints that can be pulled.
Each print will be signed by myself.
Each print is therefore an original piece of art, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This is an open edition, meaning I have not specified the amount of prints I may make.

This print comes unmounted and unframed.
The image is 21cm x 13cm
It is wrapped in acid free tissue paper and cellophane sleeve.
It is posted in a sturdy envelope using Royal Mail.

This original hand pulled print is inspired by imagery concerning idioms and I thought was a lovely subject to make a sketchily drawn print.

It is made using the A La Poupee technique which is quite a difficult process. Which means that you apply the differing coloured inks all onto the one plate, using small application tools called dollies.

The effect is a very 'painterly' style, as the inks are impossible to prevent merging a little with one-another, this, I feel, adds to the originality of each print, as each print will be slightly different!
