One in a series of "Steampunk Valentines", this is a manipulated photo of an original collage made with Victorian decoupage images, scraps of packaging, tissue paper and found objects. I made the collage with my usual scissors and glue on paper, then played around with the colours for that slightly unreal and cartoony vintage look.

This is a single 5" x 7" greeting card on white 300gsm sustainable card stock, one of three limited edition prints from an original collage.

At the age of 15 I fell in love with a Victorian scrap screen in a seaside antique shop and scraped all my holiday pocket money together to buy it. My poor mum and dad had to strap it to the roof of the car to get it home, but I've had it and loved it ever since.
The real selling point was the hopelessly romantic story of a soldier and his girl portrayed in the cut out images.
This series is an homage to the romance of the scrap screen and the Victorian Valentine, from the days when sending and receiving cards seemed so much more thrilling and mysterious; but with a knowing, 21st century twist.
