After more than ten years of hand-painting these jute bags I have decided to change my career and close my Folksy shop after Christmas. These are the last few bags that I have in stock and I am hoping that you will find something you like.

When jute bags started appearing in the supermarkets, I was pleased to buy them so that I could avoid using plastic bags for my shopping. But I started using my jute bag wherever I went: to the library, to the cinema, to the beach, to exhibitions, you name it I took my jute bag with me. One day I saw myself in a reflection in a shop window and realised that I was an unpaid walking advertisement for a company that didn’t need any further promotion, so I started looking around for jute bags without company logos, brands or corporate statements on them, and I failed. So I decided to print my own bags with images that I liked.
My first design was a chicken and I took my inspiration from my own hens. My second design, for my sister, was a cockatiel and she loved it and still uses it. I then started painting bags for more friends and family, and everyone said how much they preferred them to the bags on offer in the supermarket.
This is a custom-made item and cannot be returned unless faulty.

Individual hand-painted biodegradable
A bag that says something about you, rather than the supermarket!
I sell individually hand-painted, environmentally friendly, jute bags. I design and cut the stencil myself and because I paint each one individually, they are never identical and may differ slightly from the one pictured. The are then, individual little works of art!
Jute is a natural based vegetable fibre composed of cellulose and a typical jute bag has a lifespan in excess of 1,000 plastic bags. Jute is a very sustainable crop and is totally biodegradable. The company I buy my bags from have won awards for their ethical and environmental standards. The bags have ‘climate neutral’ status, are shipped rather air freighted and are fairly traded.
The Supermarket bag measures measures 47cm width x 33cm height x 18cm gusset with 36cm webbing and cord handle. For my non metric customers the bag measures 18 inches x 13 inches x 7 inches and the handle measures 14 inches. (All measurements are approximate) This is a perfect supermarket shopping bag as it is light but sturdy, stands up while you are filling it and the handles wont cut into your fingers if it becomes heavy.
These bags are painted to order and you can chose any design my from my catalogue. It may take a little longer to get to you.
