I have made a couple of patchworks from the bins of other cities, but have never made one of my own city. I don't know why it has never occurred to me before.
I have lived in London for thirty years, and travel around on public transport collecting magazines and leaflets that people leave lying around. I have been know to pick it from the pavement, too.
Anyway, it just gives me a kick to make art out of things others discard.
I absolutely never print anything. My materials have already been printed by someone else and then thrown away.
I record all of the details for each individual square (giving credit to photographers etc..) on my blog (alisonsye.com), as there is not enough room here.

An eco-friendly piece of original art, a Valentine gift, perhaps.
It is not a print or copy, it is the actual piece, making it unique. There is not another the same.
'Signed For' delivery is included in the price. UK only.
It is handmade from old museum leaflets, calendars, diaries and library books. Everything used in its making was destined for the bin. I never cut up books which could otherwise be read.
Each of the twenty-five squares has been hand-sewn and depicts a London face or faces.
You can see Charlie Chaplin, people waving goodbye to the last tram, Ethel Bartlett, Phil Veacock, an illustration by Marcel George, Kate Moss, Turner, Paul Weller, a boy riding on a bus in 1926, Mick Jagger, some university boat racers, Sherlock Holmes, a woman war worker in 1917, Elizabeth 1, Virginia Woolf, Alfred Hitchcock, a little girl sleeping at Victoria Station in 1931, Keats, the Duke Of Wellington, a giraffe from London Zoo, and, some people sheltering on the underground during the blitz.
It measures 25.5cms x 25.5cms, not including the border, which you can trim to your desired size.
It keeping with my ethos, your parcel with arrive in recycled materials.
