Full description
A NEAR PERFECT SPHERE OF FIGURED BIRCH, ON A STEM OF EBONY WHICH HAS BEEN REINFORCED INTERNALLY WITH A STEEL ROD. THE BASE PLATE IS IN STONE, WHITE LIAS, WHICH HAS SURFACE FRIENDLY PADS TO THE BASE, THIS BRINGS THE TOTAL HEIGHT TO 15 INCHES. THE SPHERE ITSELF IS 9 INCHES IN DIAMETER WITH A WALL THICKNESS OF JUST OVER A QUARTER OF AN INCH.
THE WHOLE OF THE INSIDE IS MATT BLACK, HENCE ITS NAME. THE OUTSIDE SURFACE WAS TREATED WITH DANISH OIL, FOLLOWED BY A TWO PACK CLEAR APPLICATION TO GIVE A LASTING GLOSS FINISH.
