In 2013 I was in my garage looking at some demi-johns which had been left behind by the previous occupier. I imagined that they would look good with lights inside them as an uplighter in the home. I started experimenting by drilling holes into empty bottles and inserting strings of fairy lights inside. I gave a few away as gifts to friends for birthdays / Christmas and was encouraged by their reaction to try craft fairs and street markets.

I love the reaction from people in the street, and now collect lots of quirky or rare bottles to be upcycled into gifts which are in my opinion both practical and beautiful. I have diversified into putting strings of rice lights into recycled perfume and after shave bottles, and have tried different fillings (recycled windscreen glass, marbles, acrylic).
