I love working with hessian and I felt the texture of the material would be prefect as bat wings.

Welcome! This is my hessian bat. A piece of handmade OOAK textile art that will definitely attract some attention.
I started this piece with creating the bat itself using a slightly furry, medium brown material. His large ears are wired and the cotton inner ears are painted and stained. His eyes are black beads.
The next step was finding the right piece of driftwood for him to come climbing out from. I do have an intense love for driftwood and my collection gave up this piece as perfect. It's twisted and knotty and full of character. His wings have a wire structure and then hand stitched hessian creates the perfect finish.
To really give this piece an extra dimension I have added 24 karat gold leaf to the deeper crevices of the wood.
The wood measures 47cm from side to side. This is a wall sculpture and has 2 hooks to hang him on the wall so he can start surveying his surroundings.
