This vase has great visual impact with its' contrasting white, shino glaze and dark clay slip as well as ash deposits from the flames. It was hand thrown on the wheel and while leather hard, an iron oxide slip was applied. After the bisc firing, shino glaze was ladelled over the piece and allowed to run underneath. This required some careful placement of wadding and shells to avoid it sticking to the kiln shelf! The vase was fired at the base of the kiln, close to the mouth of the firebox .. this area is slightly cooler which has produced a rather nice, frosted surface to the glaze and some unusual ashing effects.
The vase measures approx. 4 inches in height and about the same in width. Mark Smalley's personal seal is impressed to the underside. It should hold water and may be used to display fresh flowers.
Postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £4.00 for delivery within the UK.
