Full description

This striking vase was thrown on the wheel and when leather hard, the base was trimmed by eye using a potter's knife. Next a Japanese style, Oribe glaze was applied and the piece bisc fired to 1060 degrees centigrade. Finally a coat of white dolomite glaze was added, which turns this wonderful shade of orange in the firing. As the dolomite glaze picks up copper oxide from the glaze beneath it makes the surface bubble, crawl and flux, creating some amazing effects. The large amount of raw wood ash used in the Oribe glaze also produces a crackled surface.

The piece was fired to around 1270 degrees centigrade and is fully waterproof. Measures approx. 4 inches in height and the same in width. Mark Smalley's personal symbol is impressed to the underside.

Postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £4.00.
