Famous the world over and generally considered the Rolls Royce of mosaic glass, Smalti (the plural of smalto) are specialised mosaic tesserae made from beautiful and richly coloured glass produced in Italy or Mexico. Originally developed for Byzantine mosaics, the glass contains metal oxides which produce an almost infinite range of colour possibilities. The molten glass is poured into flat slabs which are then broken into individual smalti tiles with rough, irregular surfaces that may be pitted with air bubbles. Smalti mosaics are normally ungrouted.

Each 175g reclosable plastic bag of Italian smalti glass tiles will contain approximately 90 12 x12 x 6mm in your choice of ONE of the colours in the photo above. Colour mixes are not available. Please select your colour and indicate this in the "Notes to Seller":
