So what is 'Bog Oak'? Here's a history lesson from our resident woodturner...
For thousands of years the fens (an area North of Cambridgeshire) were covered with forests. About 6000 years ago, when Britain was in the middle of an ice age. At this time a great storm most likely broke the trees down and there they laid, slowly sinking into the peat beneath the ice. By the time the ice melted, the remains of all these trees were submerged under water in the peat, which preserved them to this day.
In the mid 1600's, Vermuyden, a Dutch engineer set about draining the Fens to reclaim the rich peaty soil that lay beneath the black waters. As the peat dried out it also began to shrink, but more than that without the water to bind it, it would blow away forming great dust clouds - what we call today a 'fen blow'., and so the preserved trees re-emerged from their watery resting places.

Full description
Wonderful for writing invitations, diaries or cards, a dip pen will bring back some traditional charm to your work.
This pen measures just over five and a half inches in length. It will take any standard push in nib, but NO nib is supplied as this is such a personal preference. This listing is for the holder only. The nibs can be easily obtained online or from local stationers.
As a natural material there will be small imperfections in the grain of the wood. This is considered a unique factor in handmade products and should be expected.
I believe that these special woods should be within the reach of anyone who has appreciation of their beauty and so I try to keep pricing reasonable for an individually handcrafted item. We don't produce hundreds all to the same pattern. Each item in my store is crafted with care and as such no two items can be identical. The photo shows the pen that you will be receiving.
