Full description
Part of a set of complementary designs, this pendant is made from two layers of walnut sandwiching a layer of bright neon pink acrylic in the middle. I designed the patterns and then had the wooden layers lasercut and laser-engraved by a London-based model making company.
Lasercutting wood gives its edges a rich, blackened colour, which I think works well against the bright pink of the acrylic layer. I glued the layers for each piece together using a clear epoxy resin glue, which is very strong and hard-wearing, and waterproof. The wood pieces were then varnished with three layers of a protective water-based (skin-safe) clear varnish.
Each side of the pendant has a pattern of triangular 'windows' cut through to the pink layer below, a little like a stained glass window which allows the light to catch the neon pink acrylic beneath. The pink acrylic is fluorescent so it really glows in some lights!
The pendant is hung on a 25cm (10" approx) long sterling silver chain, and finished with a sterling silver lobster clasp.
Wooden shape measures 4.5cm (1 3/4" approx) wide x 2.5cm (1" approx) high.
