This stoneware tea caddy or storage jar was hand thrown on the wheel in a groggy, high-iron clay. Simple decoration was added in the form of brushed-on iron oxide slip round the base and on the lid. The rest of the colour and patination has been created simply by the action of flames and fly ash in the wood kiln. It has been fired to around 1250 degrees centigrade which has kept the surface fairly matt in texture. The inside is glazed with a food-safe, matt white shino which allows the pot to hold liquids.
Height of the jar with the lid in place is around 4.75 inches, the diameter is about 4.5 inches at it's widest point. There is a little play in the fit of the lid. Mark Smalley's personal symbol has been impressed to the underside.
Postage and packing for this item within the UK will be at a fixed cost of £3.50.
