This is the famous "Mad March Hare" - a creature predominantly solitary and nocturnal, which is rarely seen except during it's 'Mad March' behaviour, when hares can be seen boxing during courtship. This one is a stylisation of our native Brown Hare, raising his nose to sniff the chill spring air around him: 'friend or foe'?

Full description
The Hare motif was cut from a hand-blended pre-felt and then applied to a background of Shetland and Merino wools overlaying Black Welsh wool (to give a lovely soft, gently padded feel) before being wet-felted and fulled in a bamboo roll to create this wallhanging. Small amounts of silk have been felted into the surface to create clouds drifing across the moon. The Hare has been lightly defined with embroidery- silk, and has two tiny glass beads in his eye. The moon is lightly embellished with a row of creamy white glass seed beads.
The box canvas measures approximately 13cm x 18cm and can be free-standing or wall-hung.
