I have been meaning to experiment with painting on interfacing for a while. I love the depth of colour possible with this fabric paint and have aimed for a 'retro', slightly kitsch and fun feel to these brooches.

Full description
A retro-inspired design featuring a tiny ladybird, on a bright turquoise flower, with a lovely yellow centre, stitched on light weight interfacing, sealed with a coat of varnish and framed with turquoise felt forms this distinctive textile brooch.
Hand made stamps were used to print the flowers onto interfacing using a good quality fabric paint. The design was enhanced with some very simple embroidery, using cotton threads - these embroidery stitches also serve to anchor the design to the backing felt. A life-sized ladybird has been stitched to complete the design. A fine sewing cotton has been used to blanket stitch around the edge of the interfacing. The design has been sealed with a coat of clear varnish to improve durability.
The brooch is stiffened by a layer of heavy interfacing. The back of the brooch has been neatened by an extra backing of felt. A brooch pin is securely stitched in place.

Items of embroidered jewellery may not be colourfast - care should be taken to remove them from clothing before washing.
