I was very interested to see the pictures taken from the surface of a comet recently. They formed a jumble of hard, angular, crystalline shapes in dark reflective colours. I created these bead-work clusters to appear like naturally formed ice crystals in the intense cold of deep space but with smooth pearl centres, as if they had been melted in the heat of the sun. I set these in a marquise shape, which is one I particularly like because it reminds me of the era of Art Deco, where the monochrome palette and hard angular patterns were all the rage.

Full description
These intricate handmade bead-work earrings are made using dozens of tiny glass beads, Swarovski pearls and fire-polished Czech glass. The colours are a combination of black, white and fashionable haematite grey some with sparkling iridescent finishes. This design uses many different shapes of beads to create an interesting texture like that you might find in a natural crystal formation. I string them by hand using a fine needle and extremely strong waxed nylon thread. This specialist beading thread uses up-to the minute technology to give them body and stiffness as well as making them extremely robust. The technique is a little like 3D embroidery. They are an elegant 50 mm or 2" in length and mounted on hand-made ear wires I made from sterling silver in my West Sussex workshop.
