Brian Wildsmith is a hero of mine.
I acquired this wonderful book years ago, but despite the doodles, rips and missing page, it was still a thing of great beauty.
The quality of the paper and print was exquisite, and I wanted to give it a new life. I have tried to give it the respect it deserves.
I have made quite a few cards from this book, this is one of the few that remain unsold.
It is an unbreakable policy of mine never to cut up a book which could otherwise be read.
It gives me a massive thrill to make things from discarded materials.

This card is super eco-friendly (everything used was rescued from the bin) and totally unique, you will not find another the same.
It is made from a battered old copy of Birds by Brian Wildsmith, published in 1969 by Oxford University Press. The card is made from the actual book, not a copy, making it 46 years old.
I have sewn the illustration onto a used cereal box.
It measures 9.7cms x 9.5cms (when folded) and comes with a sewn upcycled envelope.
All of my work is individually numbered, this is 29. If you search for this number on my blog (alisonsye.com), you can find out loads more about the making of this piece.
It will arrive on your doormat in a sewn envelope made from old magazines.
