Hazy view from the top of Gummer's How down onto the northern stretch of Lake Windermere in the English Lake District, Cumbria.

The tiny flotilla of white sails is a group of scouts learning sailing skills. They can be heard splashing about on the Lake for most of the year as they set sail from the National Scouting Centre near Bowness.

This is one of my favourite shorter fell walks which rewards the hiker with 360 degree views. To the south are the wide sands of Morecambe bay, west down onto Lake Windermere, east to the Peninne chain and north to the high fells of the northern lakes, including the Langdale Pikes.

When I first took Gary on this hike, the panoramic views took his breath away and we spent the afternoon taking lots of photographs for future reference.

I used one of those photo's here to capture the soft colour palette of the distant views.
