Item details

This box is shaped from a solid piece of recycled oak with a hinged lid using solid brass hinges.
The top is decorated with a unique flower design using stained marquetry hardwood veneers. These have been applied using the traditional marquetry technique of hand cutting and fitting.
The box has a semi matt finish using shellac and wax polish. Inside the box is fully lined with black baize to protect the contents.
Soft tabs under the box ensure the surface it is placed on is also protected.

I wanted to create a floral design in soft pastel colours on a light coloured box. I wanted it to look light and rounded and by shaping the box from the solid I think I have achieved this. The lid also has a moulded edge making the whole box very smooth and tactile.
