Full description

An unusual sake cup which was first thrown on the wheel and distorted while the clay was still soft and wet. Once at the leather hard stage, it was carved into this dynamic form. Despite the irregular, sloping rim, it will hold a good measure of your favourite tipple, and is very pleasant to drink from..

This piece was fired to around 1280 degrees C inside a sealed saggar with charcoal and wood. The glaze is a carbon-trap shino, containing a small amount of soda ash. This has allowed the naturally occurring iron oxide in the clay to come through to the surface, giving it a beautiful warm red-brown hue.

The cup measures approx. 3.25 inches tall and around 2.5 inches wide. Carries Mark Smalley's personal symbol impressed to the base.

Postage and packing within the UK will be at a fixed cost of £3.00.

Designed by Mark Smalley in Cheshire, england
