Full description

A stunning little flower vase with a Japanese style Nuka glaze.

This piece was hand thrown on the wheel and then squared off using a paddle at the leather hard stage. A dark iron slip was added and after the bisque firing it was dipped in a Nuka glaze containing raw wood ash and Cornish stone. It was then fired to around 1250 degrees centigrade, which has creating a smooth, tactile surface with thousands of tiny pinholes. It reminds me a little of an ostrich shell in its texture and is very pleasant to touch. The inside is glazed with an off-white Shino glaze, making the piece suitable for displaying fresh flowers.

Measures around 3.5 inches tall and 3.25 inches wide. Mark Smalley's personal symbol has been impressed to the centre of the foot ring.

Postage and packing for this piece will be at a fixed cost of £3.90.

Designed by Mark Smalley in Cheshire, england
