After more than ten years of hand-painting these jute bags I have decided to change my career and close my Folksy shop after Christmas. These are the last few bags that I have in stock and I am hoping that you will find something you like.

When jute bags started appearing in the supermarkets, I was pleased to buy them so that I could avoid using plastic bags for my shopping. But I started using my jute bag wherever I went: to the library, to the cinema, to the beach, to exhibitions, you name it I took my jute bag with me. One day I saw myself in a reflection in a shop window and realised that I was an unpaid walking advertisement for companies that didn’t need any further promotion, so I started looking around for jute bags without company logos, brands or corporate statements on them, and I failed. So I decided to print my own bags with images that I liked.
My first design was a chicken and I took my inspiration from my own hens. My second design, for my sister, was a cockatiel and she loved it and still uses it. I then started painting bags for more friends and family, and everyone said how much they preferred them to the bags on offer in the supermarket.

This listing is for a custom painted hand bag, using one of the designs usually painted on the little bags.
Designs incude Ladybird, Butterfly, Bee, Piglet, Lamb, Chick, Spider, Robin, Hamster, Goldfish, Guineapig, Puppy, Rabbit, Kitten, Ballet shoes, Scottish/Irish dance shoes, Ballroom shoes, Tap shoes, Shetland pony or Tree frog.
A bag that says something about you, rather than the supermarket!
The Shopping bag measures 30cms (width) x 30cms (height) x 20cms (gusset) with 36cm handle. For non-metric customers the bag measures 12inches x 12inches x 7inches with 14 inch handle. (All measurements are approximate)
I sell individually hand-painted, environmentally friendly, jute bags. I design and cut the stencil myself and because I paint each one individually, they are never identical and may differ slightly from the one pictured. The are then, individual little works of art!
This is a perfect sized bag if you are popping into town, travelling on public transport, for picnics, or going out for the day. It is light and though it might look small it has a deceivingly large capacity due to the wide gusset which also allows the bag to stand unaided. It has a padded handle which sits comfortably in your hand or on your forearm.
