I have made a wooden bee shelter for helping the poor little bees in the cold winter weather.
The box is 10" x 6" x 5 1/2" in size and has a lift off top with a perspex sheet under the lid so that the sheltering bee (or whoever decides to live in there) can be viewed without upsetting or disturbing the creature. The perspex can also be lifted for cleaning or replacing any bedding material.
I have drilled a small hole in the front and ideally the box should be lined with hay for comfort. (not supplied unless requested)
The wood has not been treated, I didn't think the wildlife would appreciate it. You can if you feel it should be though.
It should be placed somewhere shetered in the garden, ideally on top of a post.
As the humble bumble bee is supposed to be on the decline, I thought that I would try and help them through the cold winters. I know that it is summer now, but by the time winter comes, he can be used to the shelter.
