This listing is for the egg you can see in the photos, approximately 35 x 24 mm.
Fact or Fiction?
I made this from borosilicate glass in my home studio by the sea in Pembrokeshire, melting and shaping in a hot flame, then annealing many hours in a kiln for strength and stability. Boro is harder to work than standard glass, requiring more heat and more patience, but the finished pieces are stronger than standard glass, with rich colours that shift and change according to the angle and intensity of the light.
Fiction or Fact?
A rare sub-species of the famous Welsh dragon (y Ddraig Goch) is the Skomer Stormlizard - found only along the Pembrokeshire coast, chiefly on the islands of Skomer, Skokholm and Gateholm. In addition to its normal eggs, this dragon produces small, unfertilised, jewel-like eggs, apparently as toys for its young. The adult dragons appear to confer little value on these (much preferring human made trinkets of gold and silver) - so once the young have flown the nest the eggs are simply abandoned. They are collected by an elite team of highly trained choughs and sold to raise funds for dragon research and conservation work. Enjoy your dragon egg - and thanks for your support!
