Full description

This unusual and attractive vase was hand thrown on the wheel and glazed with a combinaiton of an ash-based shino type glaze and raw wood ash. The wood ash has melted over the glaze to create many interesting patterns and effects. In some areas the ash is only partially melted, forming a hard, dark crust .. in other areas it has melted into a liquid glaze, forming matt and glassy rivulets which have run down and underneath the pot. The top of the rim is especially attractive, where the wood ash has pooled and created a surface which is both glassy and matt, with a sugar-frosted appearance.

Not a "pretty" pot in the conventional sense, but it does have bags of character and presence. Stands approx. 4.5 inches tall and carries Mark Smalley's personal symbol impressed to the base.

Postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £3.00 within the UK.

Designed by Mark Smalley in Cheshire, england
