I designed this for a commission. The first musical instrument I have made so a nice challenge. I was so very pleased with the result that I immediately made another.

This is a stained glass suncatcher made using the Tiffany copper foil technique.
A violin in lovely shades and textures of purple glass.
I;'ve used a blue and purple streaky glass for the finger board, tail piece and chin rest. I've made the pegs from silvery beads and the 4 wires go down from the pegs, over the bridge (another silver bead) to the tail piece. I've used another tibetan silver bead as the scroll at the end of the neck.
It's 17 cm tall and 6 cm wide and I traced my design from an illustration of a real violin so the proportions should be reasonably correct..
I drew the design by tracing an illustration of a violin so it is reasonably accurate shape and size wise. I do happen to know how a violin fits together as I used to play one.
It looks really lovely hanging in the window where it catches the light. The suncatcher hangs from a strong nylon thread which is securely attached in 2 places to the violin via soldered wire rings.
This item is absolutely unique. I never make two pieces exactly the same, I always use slightly different colours and textures of glass.
The 5th photo is of the cello I make to the same pattern as they are proportionally identical. The cello has a spike instead of the chin rest.
I can make this in other colours or as a cello if you prefer, please just ask.
