I love Andesine and this terracotta coloured variety of the stone is a particularly lovely example.

Andesine is a less well known natural gemstone, coveted for its unusual inner sparkle. It is from the Feldspar group of minerals. More familiar members of the group include moonstone and labradorite. This particular stone, at first glance, appears to be an opaque orange red colour - then the light hits it and you will see the gem is in fact translucent and amazingly blue green sparkles come flashing from deep within! This effect is very difficult to capture in photos, but I have tried to give you an idea - please see photos.

This inner sparkle is a completely natural phenomenon and the gem has not been treated to create the effect.

I have set the lovely oval cut gemstone into a pretty cast sterling silver ring mount. The shoulders of the ring have lovely scrolling filigree work. The ring measures a UK size M approx. according to my ring sizer. There is a generous thickness to the silver band, so it could be re-sized by your local jeweller if needed.

The Andesine measures 10x8mm approx. and has been set obliquely into the mount, held in place by eight claws.

The ring is stamped 925 for sterling silver on the inside of the shank.
