I was working on 'Lacy Butterfly' at the time (the first in the Lacy Collection) and I knew I wanted to do more. My mum absolutely loves owls and I grew up with owl-related items around our house so it just seemed like the most obvious papercut to design next. I was really interested in drawing doilies and circular patterns and I knew this would work well with an owl because of those big eyes.
This remains one of my favourite designs.
