I love kimonos and am fascinated by the fact that a whole kimono is constructed from just one roll of fabric called a silk bolt or 'tanmono'. It is an exact length and width and nothing gets wasted. This in turn denotes the finished size of my cushions!

Full description

A pretty and delicate cushion handmade from lightweight late-summer kimono silk, printed with plum blossom, chrysanthemums, maple leaves, rocks and other traditional seasonal japanese motifs pictured with a meandering river running thorugh them. This water motif symbolises a long life. A vintage kimono silk fabric is on the reverse of the cushion.

NB Your cushion has a very slightly different design to that pictured as the design continued 'meandering' for the length of the kimono! Your river actually has a bridge over it at one point).

This unique cushion has been made from a piece of cloth taken from a rare and genuine japanese kimono dating from the 1970's. (No kimonos were injured during the making of this cushion - all fabric is taken from damaged and un-weareable kimono!)

I hope you can display and enjoy this cushion as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand-painted and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.

100% silk cover

Measures 30cm x 30cm.

Has a duck feather filler and non-removebale cover.
