This little bud vase has alot of presence due to the depth and darkness of the glaze. It was hand thrown on the wheel, the lower half trimmed, and covered with an iron slip at the leather-hard stage. Once bisque fired, the top half was glazed with a Japanese style Nuka, while the bottom half was painted with a black slip.
The very coarse clay created some irregularities in the surface under the glaze and this in turn has produced some interesting variations in colour and texture. The unmelted silica in the glaze has been left as beautiful, floating, blue and white specks. Although more decorative than functional, the vase is waterproof and could be used to display one or two fresh flowers.
This piece measures approx. 3.5 inches tall and just over 3 inches wide. Carries Mark Smalley's personal symbol impressed to the base.
Postage and packing for this item is at a fixed cost of £4.00.
