Fairy tales are a constant source of inspiration for me. I've recently been exploring constrained writing techniques, and this mini zine was the result (incorporating one of my older cross stitch patterns). I also adore artistamps, so had great fun designing a cover to be printed on gummed paper, which could actually be used as faux postage.

LITTLE RED ZINE
Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf Revisited
The Little Red Zine considers the traditional fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood (or Little Red Cap) from some alternative angles, and features:
- Artistamps from original hand-drawn illustrations of Little Red and the Wolf
- Cover printed on gummed paper so that artistamps can be cut out & used as lick & stick faux postage
- An acrostic poem in which Little Red is the heroine but possibly not exactly selfless
- A 4 page prose story (/flash fiction) in which the Big Bad Wolf wins hands down
- A cross stitch chart adapted from the vintage artwork of Jennie Harbour
- A blackout poem taken from an edition of Red Riding Hood by the Brothers Grimm and creating an entirely new context/narrative
PLEASE NOTE - aimed at young adult & adult readers. These re-tellings definitely err to the darker side!
Although mini in size (approx. 7.5 x 10.5cm), this zine is packed with content: 8 pages long (not including covers), printed on 100gsm recycled paper, and finished with a simple hand-stitched binding. Packaged in a plain self-seal cellophane packet.
