Full description

This lovely, rustic cup was thrown by hand on the wheel using a heavily grogged, red clay, and when leatherhard a layer of white slip was applied to the outside. Once bisque fired, it was dipped in a transparent ash glaze and the inside partially coated with a traditional shino glaze. It was fired to around 1280 degrees C in a wood kiln which has made the slip layer slightly translucent, revealing the darker clay beneath.

Quite a large cup, it will hold a good amount of tea or coffee, but is reasonably light, weighing only around 280 grams. It measures approx. 3.75 inches tall and 3.25 inches across the mouth. Carries Mark Smalley's personal symbol to the underside.

UK postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £4.20 for delivery by courier. An extra charge of £2.00 will be required for remote area postcodes IM, HS, ZE.

Designed by Mark Smalley in Congleton and sheffield
