The big top is almost dark. The audience is seated. Boys and girls hold on tight to sticky candyfloss sticks and fly-high balloons. A cloud appears above the high-wire. (Surely that wasn't there before?)
As the cloud begins to flicker, strobes of light rain down, reaching the very edges of the tent to reveal a top-hatted magician standing by the ring. Enter Bumblewick Beesting, the most marvellous conjurer who ever lived (and rather dashing he is too).
And so begins every show at the Butterscotch & Beesting Circus. A magical place as ever there was . . .
