This brooch is inspired by the Swan. One of the largest European birds. These vegetarians mate for life and are known for their strong family ties. Mute cygnet swans hitch a ride on Mum or dad's back for their first ten days. This bird when sensing danger ruffles his feathers and heads straight towards the problem

This Brooch is made by collaging old tins that I collect. Which means that each one is individual. I have a large collection of tins and sift through them all to find the right colours. I try and pick colours as close as possible to the bird. In this case a Swan, which is a snowy white with an orangey beak. Each piece is cut out with my piercing saw and filed so it fits properly.
The centre is walnut wood, with a silver backing, which the tins are riveted to.
And I have handmade the silver pin.
The Brooch comes in a recycled grey jewellery box with my name on it. And a tag with information on the bird.
