Nature fascinates me in all its beauty, complexity and changeability. Trees and leaves have long been the subjects of my artistic studies and endeavors. An understanding of wet molding leather gave me the idea of making leather accessories to look like realistic leaf so that you can carry nature with you wherever you go!

Full description

A moulded leather hair barrette inspired by the shapes and colours of natural, autumnal Oak leaves. Made of quality 1.5mm vegetable tanned tooling leather, this striking hair accessory has a very earthy and natural look in beautiful autumnal colours that would compliment any hair colour. A simple, elegant hand carved wooden pin secures the barrette in place.

The barrette measures approximately 11.5cm (4.5 inches) long and 9.5cm (3.75 inches) at the widest point of the leaf. The holes for the pin are about 6.5cm (2.75 inches) apart and the wooden pin measures approximately 15cm (6 inches) long. The leather has been carefully hand moulded into shape, then decorated with acrylic paints to imitate as much as possible a natural leaf, including intentional imperfections such as small holes, veins and colour changes to make it look as realistic as possible. A coat of durable and water resistant carnauba cream has been applied to give the barrette a hardy finish.

The item you will receive will be as close as possible, but not exactly the same as the one pictured, as is the nature of handmade items, which will give it unique character; after all, every leaf is different in nature.

Please inform me if you wish to have a leaf barrette in a different colour scheme (eg, spring green) or slightly different shape and I will do my best!
