Whilst on a research project looking at the cultural impact of the First World War I came across a beautiful miniature Bible and prayer book, designed to fit in a soldiers breast pocket. It was well thumbed and obviously cared for; a small but treasured object from the trenches of the Western Front.

The soldiers themselves came up with all sorts of poetry, songs and stories which, despite the brutality of trench warfare, were amazingly optimistic and often wickedly humorous. Some of the stories and sayings sounded like secular versions of prayers and psalms that I think were as cherished as the small Bible I had found.

E.N.D is my attempt to remember the humour and liveliness of those who fought 100 years ago. Despite the age of the text, the advice is universally applicable and wickedly simple.

Full description

In life you can be in one of two places: A safe place or a dangerous place.

If you are in a safe place...why worry?

If you are in a dangerous place you can be one of two things: Injury-free or injured.

If you are injury-free...why worry?

If you are injured it can be one of two types: Slight or Serious.

If it is slight...why worry?

If it is serious there will be two outcomes: You will survive or die.

If you survive...why worry?

If you die...you can't worry.

So in all these circumstances...

Why worry at all?
