When I found out my dad had bowel cancer, I wanted to do something to help. This project brings together my love of mail art, postage stamps, zines and linguistics with my dad's love of wildlife and birds. Hopefully the result is something that will enable me to donate something worthwhile to a cause which is suddenly important to me.

A DISSIMULATION OF BIRDS
This mini zine is the first of a new series created for Project Dissimulation. It is full of collective nouns for 6 different birds, my random related musings, and illustrated with used postage stamps. There is a sub-theme of transience. The birds featured in this issue are: blackbird, magpie, crane, swan, kingfisher and robin.
The stamps were donated to Project Dissimulation from around the world, and will also be used to make other related products (eg badges). I designed Project Dissimulation as a distraction when my dad was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer. His condition declined rapidly and he passed away in early May. The entire cover price from the sale of Project Dissimulation items will be donated to Beating Bowel Cancer (http://www.beatingbowelcancer.org/) - a charity with a very positive approach to bowel cancer awareness.
Zine measures approx. 7.5cm x 10.5cm and is printed in full colour on 110gsm FSC paper (pic 3). Zines are packaged in a simple cellophane packet and will be delivered in an envelope with matching Project Dissimulation address label.
