I love kimonos and I hope you can display and enjoy this cushion as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand-painted and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.

Full description

100% silk cover.

Measures 35cm x 35cm.

Has a duck feather filler and non-removable cover.

Spot clean only.

This striking cushion is made from genuine vintage kimono fabric from the 1970's. It depicts an abstract intepretation of a tsunami, though the lines remind me of ripples in the sand. It feels quite contemporary in style. The reverse of the cushion is in the same kimono silk.

Whilst feeding my addiction to kimono fabric I was amazed to discover that Japan was heavily influenced by western modernist design in the 1950's and 60's. I have found fabrics heavily inspired by Eames and Day. As with European vintage print fabric, these are highly collectable. But of course THESE are hand printed, 100% silk and this cushion is entirely unique.
