Full description

This wood-fired tea bowl was hand thrown on the wheel and distorted slightly while still wet. Once leather hard, the rim was carved to give the piece an unusual, asymmetrical form. After the bisque firing, the inside was glazed with a traditional, Japanese shino, and the outside decorated with free-flowing brushwork, using an iron oxide slip.

It has been fired twiced in a Japanese-designed wood kiln for a total of 26 hours, to a blistering 1300 degrees centigrade, making the tea bowl completely food safe and highly durable. It is surprisingly light for its size and the rounded form makes the bowl very pleasant to hold in the hands.

It measures approx. 4.5 inches tall and just over four inches wide. Mark Smalley's personal symbol has been impressed to the base.

UK postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £4.20 for economy delivery by courier. A small extra charge will be required for remote area postcodes IM, HS, ZE.

Designed by Mark Smalley in Cheshire, england
