Full description

This stoneware vase was hand thrown on the wheel, then carefully carved using a custom-made tool. A unique method of carving, it maintains the symmetrical outline of the original vessel whilst creating a natural, irregular surface.. what the Japanese might call "wabi sabi". The piece has been coated with an oak-ash glaze and fired in a wood kiln to a blistering 1300 degrees centigrade. This temperature makes the piece fully waterproof so it can be used to display fresh flowers.

The vase stands a touch under 5 inches tall and approx. 3.5 inches wide. Mark Smalley's personal symbol has been impressed to the base.

UK postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £3.90 for economy delivery by courier. There is a small extra charge for remote area postcodes IM, HS, ZE.

Designed by Mark Smalley in Cheshire, england
