Full description

This unique and unusual guinomi was hand thrown on the wheel, then carved to give it a rock-like texture. Considering it has the look and weight of a rock, it is surprisingly comfortable and pleasant to hold, and despite the steeply carved rim, it will still hold a substantial shot of your favourite spirit.

Shino glaze was poured into the cup and allowed to flow down the sides, creating a kind of waterfall effect. The piece was actually fired twice; the first time in a saggar with charcoal, wood and banana skins (!) to 1300 degrees centigrade, and the second time to earthenware temperature in a wood kiln. The second firing has helped to bring out the warm oranges and reds in the clay and glaze.

The cup measures approx. 3 inches tall and 3 inches wide. Mark Smalley's personal symbol has been impressed to the base.

UK postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £2.90.

Designed by Mark Smalley in Cheshire, england
