Item details
This image is all about light, falling through the rich Medieval stained glass onto the glossy black spaniel and onto the weathered stone floor. But the light really represents music: the lucid, slow-changing harmonies of an unaccompanied Christmas motet which fills the church. The card was commissioned by Charlie's owner, Anthony, who had just had his own setting of those words published, and released on CD: Mary is in fact singing it.
There is a dash of digital magic in this design: I wrote the calligraphy straight (like the writing on the back), and left space for it in the design, then used a computer to insert it into the stained glass window in the correct perspective.
