Full description
This unique and beautiful vase was thrown on the potter's wheel and then the top coiled by hand. Irregular lines have been delicately incised and filled with black slip, and the piece fired in a traditional wood kiln to 1290 degrees centigrade. Where the heat was strongest, the flames have added a warm blush of darker brown to the surface.
The clay has been fired to stoneware so is waterproof and could be used to display flowers. There is a very slight indentation to the underside of the vase due to the clay slumping over the wadding at the highest temperatures. Mentioned only for complete accuracy, this doesn't affect its appearance when displayed in any way.
It measures just under 5 inches wide and approx 4.5 inches tall and carries Mark Smalley's personal seal to the underside. I try to photograph all pieces as accurately as possible, but please bear in mind that colours may vary slightly under different lighting conditions.
UK postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £4.50 for economy delivery by courier. A small extra charge will be required for remote area postcodes IM, HS, ZE.
