There is a local tale of Black Shuck....a terrifying black dog who ran rampage in the village of blythburgh....leaving claw marks across the church door as the villagers hid inside....An Old Norfolk Saying... "And a dreadful thing from the cliff did spring, And its wild bark thrill'd around, His eyes had the glow of the fires below, Twas the form of the Spectre Hound"
Black Shuck is renowned for being one of the oldest tales in Great Britain, 'Shuck' apparently coming from the Anglo-Saxon word for Demon or Devil - 'scucca'. Personally I think it is terrible PR...Black shuck is actually a bit of a sad old mutt who hasnt eaten anyone in ages!!!

Full description
This is a hand painted black dog mug measuring 3.5" 9cm high and holds half a pint of tea...
I paint using foodsafe underglaze colour and lead free glaze and fire each mug to high earthenware temperature before glaze firing to 1060. At home I put all my ceramics in the dishwasher, but would not recommend that earthenware goes in the oven or microwave. (This is a 'proper ceramic painting' not a on glaze surface paint.)
Each design is hand painted and I do not use stencils or stickers...so each black dog is unique...this mug depicts 'sad mutt' the outside reads 'Norfolk black dog" then on the inside of the mug "Is just a just a bit of a sad mutt...." and underneath "who hasn't eaten anyone in ages!"
I put a care label attached with jute string to the handle and each mug is back stamped.
I can personalise any mug or piece, just get in touch if you would like this. please allow 14 days for production and delivery...
I post using first class recorded delivery and apologise for the cost of this! I use recycled materials when packaging where possible.
