I love kimonos and am fascinated by the fact that a whole kimono is constructed from just one roll of fabric called a silk bolt or 'tanmono'. It is an exact length and width and nothing gets wasted. This in turn denotes the finished size of my cushions!

A really pretty pair of cushions made with a rare vintage yellow kimono silk fabric hand-painted with white, pink and grey blooms. As a sun symbol widely used by the imperial family, this chrysanthemum design represents the longevity of life. The same piece of fabric has been used for the back of this cushion. (NB: Yellow is a hard colour to get right digitally).
These cushions have been made from a piece of cloth taken from a rare and genuine japanese kimono or 'Furisode' worn by a woman dating from the 1970's. The fabric originates from the Niigata region in Japan which has been a main producer of kimono silk for over one hundred years.
I hope you can display and enjoy these cushions as if a beautiful work of art or sculpture. They are unique! Much of the cloth I use is hand embroidered or hand-painted and I think this is a wonderful way of preserving such an ancient and revered craft.
Measures 30cm x 30cm.
100% silk cover
Has a duck feather filler and non-removebale cover.
Do not get wet. Professional clean only.
Due the age of the cloth there may be some permanent marks and creases, but I think this all adds to the beauty and history of the cloth.
