This sake cup is one of the most interesting pieces I've ever made. Fired in reduction to a blistering 1290 degrees centigrade, it's glazed with a transparent ash glaze on the outside and a warm, reddish brown shino glaze on the inside. The ash glaze has brought out the iron in the clay body, producing a wonderful speckled effect.
The cup was hand thrown on the wheel, manipulated while still wet, then carved and faceted once the thick clay had dried for several days.
It has a very heavy, rock-like feel to it, with a generous volume inside for a shot of sake, whisky, brandy..whatever your tipple may be. The weight, buttery glaze, and the angled surfaces make it very pleasant to touch and hold.
The cup measures approx 3 inches tall and 2.75 inches wide. In perfect condition and completely food safe. Carries Mark Smalley's personal seal to the underside.
I have tried to photogragh the piece as accurately as possible, but please bear in mind that colours may vary slightly under different lighting conditions. I will of course offer a full refund if you are not completely happy with your purchase.
UK postage and packing for this item will be at a fixed cost of £2.90.
