I am a firm campaigner for British, hand crafted goods, and I always try to source gifts and things for my home from fellow crafters! Quirky, handmade things all the way!!
I make my ceramics using hand building techniques, particularly ‘slabbing’ where you roll out clay (kind of like pastry) and then use it to make all sorts of things. There is almost no end to the things which you can create with clay, it is just so versatile. Glazing is always exciting, as you never know what effects will have taken place each time you open the kiln!
I try to make items to suit all budgets, and just LOVE making ceramics. I usually try to make items which are usable as well as nice to look at!

This set of three flying dove magnets is my take on the three flying ducks of days gone by!
They are 8cm from beak to tail, and approx 6cm high. I made them by first rolling out an even slab of clay, then rolling the flower design over the top, and finally cutting the out using a dove cookie cutter. They were then fired to 980’C.
After leaving the kiln to cool completely, I unpacked the doves and dipped them in a blue-grey glaze, washed back the raised areas to add definition, and then fired them again, this time to 1220’C.
Finally, I stuck a magnet to the back of each dove, and hey presto, you have a set of beautiful magnets!
This is the first posting on folksy from my brand new 2012 designs, look out in the next few weeks for lots more spanking items from my kiln ‘Ferny’!
Clay has a habit of warping whilst drying and in the kiln, so each dove has its own unique shape.
I use recycled packaging, and post items as soon as possible.
Please browse my folksy shop, and take a look at my other textured ceramic pieces. If you have an idea for a commission you would like me to consider, please message me, as I love trying out different things.
