I have been researching interior design colour schemes for 2012. The plum slate theme was inspired by a combination of a few articles in 'Living Etc' magazine, a couple featuring tonal grey schemes and a feature on a reader's home.

Full description
For the background, three gorgeous shades of grey/silver fabrics are patchworked together, with triangle inserts of a purple mottled batik printed cotton and a plum taffetta silk.
The four feature circles are created by free-machine embroidery onto vanishing muslin, a fabric that dissolves hence only the stitching remains. Three colours have been combined, a plum, charcoal and metallic silver. These are topped with handmade felt (using the wet-felting method) in plum and purple tones, a plum fancy yarn and further free-machine embroidery. To finish the circles are embellished with a sprinkling of co-ordinating seed beads.
The cushion has a silver envelope back which is fastened with three large iridescent shell buttons, and includes a 45 x 45cm polyester cushion insert.
