My Crinoline lady is very elegant, taking the air in her Sunday Best. She has a lovely heavy lace shawl and very full skirt. Her blouse, buttoned to the neck of course, has tiny black buttons. Her bonnet has a lace front and a flower over her right ear and is tied with the usual large bow. The parasol is grey lace over black.
I handmade this vintage lady sculpture out of wire and hardened fabric. It is for outdoor use all the year round and like my other outdoor sculptures can withstand rain and frost. She would be suitable and very eye catching for indoors use too.
She has been constructed on an 8mm threaded metal centre-post which will allow her to be placed/screwed into a paving flag or log slice with a nut tightened from below. After which she can be cemented into place if necessary for security.
These fabric sculptures are lightweight and have a build system similar to fibreglass (multi layered resin soaked material construction). They are very strong, do not chip or parts snap off unlike ceramics. She can stand outdoors all year round and withstand rain and frost.
She measures : 21" high x 12"wide x12"deep
Washable in cold water. For outdoor use an annual spray varnish is advised.
I love the elegance from the Victorian era. I decided to create a lady in a crinoline dress. This lady evolved from that plan. She has part of a recycled vintage hand crochet doiley as her shawl along with other pieces of recycled handmade lace for her hat and parasol so recycled materials would be about 20%.
