The fern evokes to me images of ancient forests, wildness and abundance. When I visited Newgrange in Ireland I passed through some very ancient woodland/forest that was full of rare ferns dating back to prehistoric times, very grounding, i can still smell the green leaves and the rich earth...Mead, honey and bees feature strongly in Celtic, Egyptian, Greek and many other cultures' mythologies, some saying that they embody the soul, others speech, eloquence and intelligence, they are a great symbol of humanitarianism.
